Among Vineyards and Sunflowers – On Two Wheels
07. Jul 2026.
Around twenty kilometres of cycling through vineyards and sunflower fields, with the wind in our hair. Good spirits, conversations, smiles, and one shared goal – to do something good for our health. That was the atmosphere of the first group ride on the Vršac – Mesić – Vršac route, bringing together nearly 50 participants, including colleagues from Hemofarm and the Hemofarm Foundation, their family members, friends, and fellow citizens. Among the youngest participants were two little ones enjoying the ride safely in child bike seats with their parents, proving that love for cycling and healthy habits begins at an early age.

“The ride was organized to show that taking care of both physical and mental health is equally important. Sometimes, all it takes is setting aside a little time, getting on a bicycle, and spending time outdoors in good company,” said Alena Pajić from the Hemofarm Foundation, the initiator of the ride and one of the founders of the Cycling Section.

She also expressed special thanks to the City of Vršac, the Vršac Police Administration and Traffic Police, the Vršac Emergency Medical Service, the Red Cross of Vršac, as well as Hemofarm departments whose support and commitment helped ensure that the ride was safe and successful.

“I am truly delighted that our first group ride brought together so many colleagues, their families, and members of our local community. Thank you all for dedicating your time and showing that together we can build a culture of healthier lifestyles. I would especially like to thank the Hemofarm Foundation for organizing this ride, as well as all the City of Vršac services that helped make it safe and enjoyable. We will continue promoting cycling, an active lifestyle, and safer conditions for everyone who rides on two wheels,” said Lara Kerkez Bubalo, Occupational Health and Safety Manager at Hemofarm.

This time, however, the kilometres were not the main focus. The greatest value of the ride came from the people – everyone who chose to spend their Friday afternoon together, staying active, supporting one another, and showing that healthy habits are easiest to adopt when shared with others.

“It was exactly how a Friday afternoon should look – pleasant weather, a great group of people, an easy ride, and lots of positive energy,” said Željko Cvjetićanin, one of the mentors in the Hemofarm Foundation Education Programme and Manager of Mechanical Design and Manufacturing at Hemofarm.

“I didn't expect so many people of different generations to come together, all with the same goal – to spend quality time together. The organization was excellent, we felt safe throughout the ride, and I can't wait for the next one. These events are a great opportunity to socialize while doing something good for our health,” said Olja Šukina, one of the participants.

For Milica Delibašić, a scholarship recipient of the Hemofarm Foundation's You Can Do It Education Programme, who joined the ride while completing her internship at Hemofarm, the experience was a welcome break:

“No camera could truly capture today's experience or the beautiful scenery. I'm happy to have been part of a community that cares about its health while enjoying the beauty of nature.”

The ride demonstrated that there is great interest in activities like this in Vršac and that even more cycling enthusiasts of all generations will join future rides.

See you again soon – on two wheels. 🚲
