Table Tennis – A Sport That Brought Me Back to Myself
I started playing table tennis back in the elementary school. We had only one table, and the rule was simple – the winner stays. That competitive spark awakened in me the desire to become better, faster, and more precise. As time went on, my passion for the sport only grew.
The game quickly became much more than just a hobby. In a split second, as the ball comes flying toward you, you make a series of decisions – how to receive it, where to send it, how to outsmart your opponent. Every muscle is engaged, but so is the brain. That’s what fascinates me most – table tennis is both a physical and a mental sport.
Beyond the mental relief it brings, table tennis is also great for your health – it improves reflexes, coordination, balance, and focus. Regular play can help regulate blood pressure, strengthen the cardiovascular system, and prevent back and joint pain. Most importantly, it boosts your energy and mood.
At one point, due to a herniated disc, I had to stop all physical activity. After surgery and a two-year break, it was table tennis that helped me get back in shape. Step by step, I returned to my usual rhythm – and for that, I’m grateful to this sport.
When I play, everything else fades away. Thoughts disappear – there’s only the ball and the will to win. It helps me relax and unload the stress of everyday life.
Even though it’s often seen as an individual sport, table tennis has a strong team spirit. At the Workers’ Sports Games, every individual victory only counts if the team wins too. That’s where teamwork, joint practice sessions, and post-match bonding come in.
Today, whenever our schedules allow, we train once a week – that’s our foundation for every upcoming competition. Regular practice brings visible progress, and we always look forward to winning a medal, especially at Hemins - the sports event organized by the Independent Trade Union of Chemistry and Non-Metals of Serbia.
My advice? If you’re looking for a sport that moves you, challenges you, and helps you recharge – give table tennis a try. Especially during winter, when we all tend to slow down. It makes you think and keeps you moving. Whether you play casually or competitively – what matters is that you play.
