How Music Shapes Life: From Teenage Punk to a Corporate Band
I started engaging with music around the age of ten, when I enrolled in music school, but I was definitely “infected,” and that “illness” has continued through high school. I was fortunate to spend my teenage years in the 1980s, during the punk and new wave movements, and later the beginnings of the techno scene. I followed the release of albums by EKV, Leb i Sol, Šarlo Akrobate, Električni Orgazam, Idoli, and Azra in real time, as today’s youth would say, and from that moment on, music became part of my everyday life.
The bass guitar was the only available instrument in the first band I joined, and that brief “episode” has been going on fo forty years. Playing music has allowed me to meet many wonderful people and perform in various venues—from Fest in Zemun, Foxtrot in Novi Sad, Iguana in Belgrade, Zeleno Zvono in Zrenjanin, all the way to Mac Tire Pub in Banja Luka.
I’ve never been a serious musician, but playing in a band helped me later adapt more easily to the professional environment. In a band, you learn that there are people better than you, but also that the group can’t function without you. A band sounds as good as its weakest member. Teamwork is not easy, but when all the pieces fall into place and everyone finds their proper role, everything clicks—and that’s the moment when you begin to enjoy it.
It’s scientifically proven that listening to music lowers cortisol levels, the stress hormone in our bodies, helping us relax and release tension. At the same time, music has an incredible power to motivate us, boost our energy, and improve our mood.
Recently, I have been playing in a band that supports the Pop Rock Choir Family, which is a new musical experience for me but also very interesting and refreshing. The choir includes my colleagues Bilja Francuski and Slavica Stojev, so we’re covered from the QA perspective and won’t stray off track. 😊
Having reached my 30th anniversary at Hemofarm, colleagues familiar with my stage activities contacted me with the idea of forming a band comprised of company employees to perform in the charitable competition named BizBandovi. It only took a few days, from the idea to execution. The team members gathered from all over the company: from Šabac and Belgrade, to Vršac. The musical lineup includes members from the Supply Chain, RAMACA, STADA GIS, Marketing and Sales, Packaging Center, Business Development, and Legal. We’re a big, cheerful crew, thrilled to rock with VIS MIDOLI. Rehearsals are in full swing — the vibe is fantastic, the energy is high, and once we perfect those backing vocals, we’ll be ready for the big stage!
The performance is on November 26th at ZAPPA Baza, and in the next issue—you’ll find a detailed concert report with full-color photos.
