Half a Ton of Plastic Caps Collected in the Drive 'Collect Caps for Charity'
03. Dec 2018.
On the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons, Hemofarm Foundation donated about half a ton of plastic caps collected by employees of this company to the Vršac-based Paraplegic and Quadriplegic Association 'Parakvad VŠ'. Thus, the Foundation participated in the 'Collect Caps for Charity' drive, supporting the purchase of wheelchairs and other orthopaedic aids for members of the Association.

'Many physical barriers can be overcome if we have adequate aids, therefore, such drives are of great importance to us. Members of our association prove that people with disabilities not only have their qualities, skills and knowledge, but also greatly contribute to the society we live in' - Dragan Vitorović, Chairman of the 'Parakvad VŠ' Association stated.

Referring to numerous obstacles faced by people with disabilities in their surroundings, the Director of Hemofarm Foundation Suzana Đorđević pointed out that this international day is an opportunity to publicly discuss the obstacles faced by people with disabilities on a daily basis, as well as to try to find a permanent solution for overcoming such problems.

’People with disabilities are often marginalized and invisible to society, and the common task of all of us, their fellow citizens, colleagues and neighbours is to understand and support them whenever possible. That's why I always proudly indicate that Hemofarm employees participate in a large number of humanitarian drives thus showing by their personal example how important it is to take care of others’, the Director of Hemofarm Foundation said.

The 'Collect Caps for Charity' drive was launched in 2015, and 47 orthopaedic aids have been purchased so far. The collection of plastic bottle caps provides funds for the purchase of orthopaedic aids for people with disabilities, simultaneously raising the eco-awareness of citizens, especially in children and youth.

Urging the public not to throw away plastic caps but rather deliver them to one of the numerous organizations that struggle on daily basis to improve the living conditions of people with disabilities, Hemofarm Foundation reminds that a single plastic cap is only slightly heavier than one gramme, and that approximately five tons of caps should be collected for a new wheelchair.
