People to People: Donation of school supplies to the users of the ‘Drop in Shelter’
Hemofarm employees from Belgrade, Vršac and Šabac have responded promptly to the appeal of the ‘Drop in Shelter’ in Belgrade. We have decided to support more than 400 children who live in absolute poverty and are about to start school this fall without basic school supplies. The employees have donated backpacks, pencil cases, notebooks, crayons, art blocks, exercise books, pencils, and erasers.
‘The support of Hemofarm employees provided the users of the Shelter with the opportunity to step into a new school year without having to worry about whether they will have school supplies like their friends at school, and us, as an organization, with an additional support, making out daily work easier. Thank you from the bottom of our heart for your support, and you are always welcome at the Shelter’, Dragana Vučković, Program Coordinator of the Drop in Shelter, said on the occasion of receiving the donation.

Owing to the generosity of our employees, the school supplies were collected worth over RSD 350,000, which were handed over to the ‘Drop in Shelter’ on Friday, 30 August 2024. This donation, packed into 24 boxes, was handed over several days before September 5th, the International Charity Day dedicated to encouraging the people all over the world to support their communities through volunteering activities.

‘Actions like this not only demonstrate our humanity but also reflect a joint commitment to improvement of the life of people in the community. A big thank you to colleagues from Belgrade, Vršac and Šabac, who every day show why kindness, compassion and solidarity are the values that should move people forward. There is nothing more beautiful than a child's smile and nothing more valuable than the joy we bring to them by our actions’, said Suzana Đorđević, Director of Hemofarm Foundation.
The charity drive to help the children from the Shelter has motivated many employees to engage more readily.
Biljana Obradović, Quality Scheduler - Associate in Quality Control from Vršac, and Nemanja Brković, PR Manager, have joined Hemofarm Foundation in a symbolic handover of the donation. They spent time with the volunteers of the Shelter and the children who came that day as well to hang out, get a meal, clean clothes, and a nice word.

Nives Čpajak Devrnja, Training Academy Manager, gladly responded to the invitation to join the action pointing out that her desire to help others has always existed. ‘Whenever we have extra children's things, toys, books in the house, I take them all, together with my children, to those who need them. I am a doctor by profession and I enrolled in medicine out of a pure desire and need to help people, because I myself grew up in such an environment. I responded to the invitation to join the action without having a second thought’, Nives said.
Over the course of the last 17 years, the ‘Drop in Shelter’ provided more than 35,000 meals for the little ones who mostly live in absolute poverty in the deprived neighborhoods without electric power and water. 18,000 children could take a shower here and get the basic hygiene products, and owing to the engagement of the Shelter employees and support of the community, around 300 girls and boys have continued their education.
If you are interested in becoming a Shelter volunteer, you can do so every day, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., by going to 7 Krfska St. or Bulevar Arsenija Čarnojevića 145 in Belgrade. The Shelter is a place where children come on a voluntary basis, and workers and volunteers participate together with the children in various activities, providing them with a warm and pleasant atmosphere.
