Youth and Depression: A New Edition of “A Cup of Coffee with a Psychologist” Panel
Over the past decade, mental health problems among young people have been on the rise, showing that this is no longer a temporary crisis, but a new social reality.
In Serbia, one in five young people experiences depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts. This reality cannot be explained by a single cause. It is the result of a complex set of circumstances: an unstable social environment, the consequences of the pandemic, tragic events that have shaken society, as well as the everyday pressure to meet the expectations of family, community, and the modern digital world.
At “A Cup of Coffee with a Psychologist,” we will discuss depression among young people, its causes, pressures, and the ways in which we can listen to, understand, and support them. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 13, at 6 p.m. at Dorćol Platz.
Our speakers are Vesna Brzev-Ćurčić, a specialist in medical psychology, and Anđelija Arbutina, a psychology graduate student and volunteer at the Psychological Counseling Center of the Faculty of Philosophy for students. The discussion will be moderated by Dragan Ilić, psychologist and journalist.
