Being in motion as a way of life
Already in my childhood, owing to my parents, I grew to love regular physical activities. First it was skiing, then tennis, and after that regular hiking and mountaineering. However, that wasn’t enough for me, and so I ’discovered’ mountain biking. I found a sport that gives me the same pleasure as skiing down a steep mountain, while being available to me all year round. Nowadays, I combine walking – faster or slower, and bike. It depends on my mood. In company or alone, one hour or two, the important thing is that I move.

As I live in Vršac, I am happy that Vršački breg is a 30-minute walk from my house. The Vršac hill has a forest, the air is of good quality, and I often use the privilege of having nature in the immediate vicinity. I also infected my friends, so we go for walks together and talk. Sometimes I go alone, along the way I meet acquaintances, colleagues, who also like to move and then together we go ‘for a round’.

People have different excuses for not taking care of themselves, especially their health. They give up walking because, for example, the weather is bad. I'm one of those people who doesn't look at the sky before going out and who doesn't let the weather affect my decision to go for a walk. I know that every weather is right, you just need to set your priorities carefully and be well organized. When I move I feel good. Because life is movement.

Like most sports fans, I like to record and monitor my activities. To compare the kilometres I cover daily, the speed at which I moved, the altitude difference, etc. For that, in addition to the Samsung health application, I also use Strava app, which is used by many athletes. Through this app, we compare results, monitor and encourage each other.

I have to admit that at the end of the week it feels good to see that I managed to fulfil the goal I set for myself, and that is a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. Then I am additionally motivated to repeat the same result or even make a better one next week. In the beginning, I could not easily cover this many kilometres. When I decided to start cycling some ten years ago, my first route was going to the neighbouring village, nine kilometres away from Vršac, and returning home. That first ride lasted more than an hour. That summer, I regularly rode a couple of times a week and measured the time I needed to cover this distance. I managed to shorten the time by as much as 20 minutes, and that's not a small amount of time. Daily routine and continuity are important, that is what leads to success. It is the same in sports and business. Gradually, I added goals to myself and mastered them.

Regular movement and spending time in nature are, in addition to a healthy diet, of great importance for physical and mental health and a sure path to a healthier and more fulfilling life. Of course, there are days when I’m in a bad mood and I’d rather stay inside, surrounded by four walls, but then it is a challenge for me to force myself to put on my sneakers and go. By moving, I fill my body, and above all, my spirit with positive energy.

Moving maintains my mental balance. Physical activity also helped me during the COVID-19 pandemic, because it is easier to cope with everyday problems, personal and professional challenges and that is why I advise everyone: Including walking, at least 15 or 30 minutes a day, in your daily routine. You will not be sorry.

My parents are my role models. Although they are both in advanced age now, they are still very physically active. They are a true example of how regular movement influences the spirit to stay young regardless of age. The love of healthy lifestyle and sports is thus woven into my family's life and it is passed down from one generation to another.
